Wild pansy (Viola Tricolor) is a very versalite little flower that has been used by herbalists for centuries.
It is a very common perennial wildflower that blooms from April to September, and has three-colored flowers (hence the Latin name). Originally from Europe, it is now found in North America as well.
The plant is safe to eat (although it is rarely eaten), or brew into tea, which is a mild diuretic and is used to treat cystitis. Other uses include the treatment of asthma, epilepsy, bronchitis and even heart disease.
Topically, it has long been used to treat skin diseases such as eczema, acne, and pruritus. It is very rich in triterpenes and flavonoids which are thought to be the source of its strong anti-inflammatory effect (inflammation may contribute to ageing).
We use wild pansy in extract in quite a few of our products.
